But it should also include your other experiences that relate to the position you are applying for. For example, you may be the president of a fraternity or sorority, or even if you are a house mom, you should put that experience in your letter. After you list all of your skills, list your experiences that fit in. If you have gone to college, list the schools you have attended. If you have other degrees, list them as well. Also list the types of jobs you have held. Are they in education, medical, journalism, etc? Whatever the job, be sure to include your title and any skills that you have developed while in that position. When listing your credentials, be sure to put them in chronological order. Do not rush to include your last job in yourCV. When you write your CV, make sure to have it in a document that is easy to read and access.Make sure that all of your experience and education is relevant to the position you are applying for. This will help you show the employer that you have the skills that are needed to succeed in the position. For example, if you are applying for a ma nagement position, make sure that you have worked in the industry before. This will help you get an interview as well as ensure that you will be hired if you are hired.Writing Magna Cum Laude on resume will not be an easy task, but it is something that you can do. However, you have to be sure that you are completing each section properly and are able to convey your skills and experiences. I Used to Be Addicted to Checking My Phone at Work Here are 4 Ways I Stopped
I Used to Be Addicted to Checking My Phone at Work Here are 4 Ways I Stopped On average, Americans spend more than four hours a day on the phone. That amounts to 28 hours a week, 112 hours a month or 56 full days a year. YikesFour hours a day is a lot of time spent on a device. And chances are some of this time is being spent during work hours.I work for a technology company. We use several web-based applications that can be easily used on a phone. I began to have a reason to use my phone at any moment during the work day. Over time, my use of work applications abfluged to diminish and my use of personal apps started to emerge. One day while in the office, I realized my phone habit welches taking over. As I was responding to an email on my computer, an email elendification popped up on my phone. I stopped typing on my computer to open the email, read it, and respond. I closed the email app and notlageiced I had twelve unread text messages. I responded to those. Then a notification fr om Twitter appeared... Do you see where Im going here? The moral of the story is that I didnt finish that initial email until two hours later. I got distracted by my phone. It took me about six months to really sto this phone habit. But with these four easy steps, you should be able to jumpstart your detachment journey much quicker. And no, Im not going to tell you to use the Do Not Disturb function or a phone-use tracking app. That would be too simple.1. Start at home. How many times does this happen to you youre watching a TV show when you unconsciously reach over to grab your cell phone, and then start scrolling. Soon, you arent paying attention to anything that happens on the TV.This same pattern transfers over into your work life. Trying to change a habit starts with your everyday routine. Set some phone boundaries or goals while at home. Think about starting small. Here are some sample ideasWatch an entire TV show without picking up your phone.Purchase an alarm clock to wake up v ersus using your phone.Charge your phone in an area where it forces you to get up and walk to it not right next to your bed or couch. Even a few inches can make a difference.2. Ditch 90% of your notifications.Push notifications make us hallucinate. According to a 2017 University of Michigan study, more than 80% of college students have experienced phantom vibrations or calls. Notifications are the number one thing that pull you into your smartphone. Turning them off might give you a serious case of FOMO, but over time, you will notice a decline in your phone pickups from this one simple change.Keep notifications on for phone calls, voicemails and text messages. Thats it Everything else should be turned off. No other notifications on your lock screen.Did you notice I left out email? Why do you need your email to pop up on your phone when you are in front of the computer? It is one of the most distracting things, outside of social media, that notifies you during the work day.3. Turn on your ringer. This was one of the best tricks Ive discovered. I turned off all my sound and vibrate tones for everything except phone calls. Now when I get texts, Im not distracted by a ding or vibrate. It also increased my battery life. This turns your cell phone into a house-like phone. When it is across the room or out of sight and someone calls you, you will be aware. Theres no need to keep it close to you all the time. Because lets be honest, no one is going to text or email you if its an emergency. Theyre going to call. If your ringer is on, you wont miss it.If this is too drastic, give tones to certain people. My fianc is the only contact that will vibrate when he sends a text.4. Give yourself time to check your phone.I do not expect anyone to go through an entire work day without checking their phone for something non-work related. Sometimes we need that hilarious meme from a group chat to give us a 3pm pick-me-up.Again, set some boundaries for yourself. Work uninterrupted f or 30 minutes without picking up your phone. Then, reward yourself with five minutes of free phone use. Over time, increase your undistracted work time. Next thing you know, an hour has passed and you havent even looked at your phone. One tactic I used was placing my phone in a drawer so I dont see messages flashing across the screen. I can still hear if I get a call because my ringer is on.These strategies will take some getting used to, but small changes will go far. There are always modifications for everything. Start small. Pick one of these four tips and start today. You will notice a huge increase in your focus and productivity --Jemia is a certified Diversity Inclusion Practitioner from Georgetown University. Important Negotiation Skills for Workplace Success
Important Negotiation Skills for Workplace SuccessImportant Negotiation Skills for Workplace SuccessWhat are negotiation skills, and why are they important to employers? Negotiation within a work context is defined as the process of forging an agreement between two or more parties that is mutually acceptable. Negotiations usually involve some give-and-take or compromise between the parties. However, negotiated agreements do not necessarily involve both parties meeting in the middle because one of the parties might have more leverage than the other. Negotiations might result in formal agreements (or contracts) or may yield a less formal understanding (as in a verbal agreement) of how to remedy a problem or determine a course of action. Jobs Which Require Negotiation Skills There are many different jobs where negotiation skills are valued including sales, management, marketing, customer service, real estate, and law. However, in general, being able to negotiate a solution is a pred ictor of workplace success. What Employers Want When youre interviewing with a potential employer, be prepared to share examples of your negotiation skills if they are required for the job for which youre being considered. This is especially important if strong negotiation/mediationszeit skills is an item specifically listed under the Requirements section of the job advertisement to which you are applying. When you describe examples of how youve effectively used negotiation skills in the past, explain how you adhered to the four common steps in workplace negotiation by answering the following questions Planning and preparationHow have you gathered data to build your case for a successful negotiation? How did you define your objectives and those of other involved parties? Opening discussionHow did you build rapport and establish a positive tone for a negotiation? Bargaining phase How did you present your argument and respond to objections or requests for concessions? Closing phas eHow did you and the other parties seal your agreement? Which of your objectives did you achieve? What concessions did you make? Employee-to-Employer Negotiations Throughout your career, you will need to occasionally negotiate with your employer or supervisor. Even if you are happy with your job, at some point youll realize that you deserve a raise, need a work process change, or want to take extra vacation time or sick leave. Typical employee-to-employer negotiations include Negotiating a salary offer after being selected for a new jobNegotiating a leave of absence or the timing of a vacationNegotiating the terms of a separation with an employerNegotiating a more flexible work scheduleForging a union contractNegotiating a contract for consulting or freelance services Employee-to-Employee Negotiations Whether your job requires teamwork or youre in a managerial position, you must be able to communicate with your peers, subordinates, supervisors, and colleagues. Here are a few instances of employee-to-employee negotiations Negotiating roles and workload within a project teamNegotiating a project deadline with your bossTroubleshooting interpersonal conflicts Employee-to-Third-Party Negotiations Depending on your job, you may be called upon to negotiate constructively with people outside of your company or firm. If you are a salesperson, this may involve negotiating favorable B2B or B2C contracts with clients. If you have purchasing responsibilities, youll need to source and negotiate with vendors for cost-saving supply contracts. And, of course, if you are a lawyer or paralegal, negotiating with opposing counsel, and with court personnel, is a given. Even jobs like teaching require a degree, if not of negotiation, then of its close relative, mediation. Teachers frequently structure learning contracts with their students. And parent communication often requires persuasive mediation skills as well. Examples of employee-to-third-party negotiations includ e Negotiating with a customer over the price and terms of a saleNegotiating a legal settlement with an opposing attorneyNegotiating service or supply agreements with vendorsMediating with students on lesson plan goals
